Skiing in the largest ski area in the Pyrenees
The first thing you think of in a winter sports resort is skiing! Winter sports enthusiasts will be delighted, as there’s plenty to do. The Grand Tourmalet ski area comprises 2 resorts in one, with the villages of Balèges and La Mongie. It’s the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees! Stretching between 1,400 and 2,500 meters above sea level, it boasts 62 runs for all levels, to delight children and adults, experienced skiers and beginners alike. On the program for your vacation: 100 km of ski runs and downhill slopes, set against a backdrop of breathtakingly varied landscapes alternating between forests, the Pic du Midi and snow-covered peaks.

Need to recharge your batteries, take a break and be pampered? Two balneotherapy centers await your relaxation in the Grand Tourmalet area. Climbing to the top of the Pic du Midi
The Pic du Midi is a must for your stay in La Mongie. Its 2,877-metre-high terraces offer breathtaking 360-degree views of the Pyrenees. To get there, simply take the La Mongie cable car. Thrills are guaranteed, with over 1,000 meters of space beneath your feet, and a belvedere with a glass structure. You can then continue your visit in the museum area specially designed for children. For thrill-seekers and seasoned cyclists, the Pic du Midi is also open to mountain bikers! If you want to keep your head in the stars and observe them from the summit, you can even treat yourself to a night at the top of the Pic du Midi. You’ll have the great privilege of watching the sun rise and set for an unforgettable and exceptional stay.
Mountain biking and hiking in the heart of nature
The Grand Tourmalet is world-famous for road cycling, as it is also the venue for the Tour de France. The Bike Park in Barèges, a neighboring village to La Mongie, should appeal to both beginner and experienced mountain bikers. There are several trails through the forests of Barèges, allowing you to take full advantage of the natural surroundings. Adults and children alike will find trails to suit their level, accessible for mountain biking, enduro, downhill, VAE, scooters and more.
