Discover the natural riches of the Pink Paradise, a Mediterranean ecosystem unique in the world!

The 2nd largest Mediterranean delta after the Nile, the Camargue promises a cascade of discoveries for your vacation in Le Grau-du-Roi. No fewer than 14 different statutes protect this delta, notably in the Petite and Grande Camargue! This says a lot about the value of this mosaic of environments covering some 345,000 ha (including 175,000 ha in the marine sector).

In short, your vacation in the Camargue will be a sight to behold in terms of landscape (dunes, ponds, marshes, lawns, brackish lagoons, beaches, rice fields, reed beds, roubines, sansouïres…) and vegetation (samphire, soda, saladelle or sea lavender…). The fauna is just as exceptional: some 350 species of birds, including the prince of the Camargue, the pink flamingo. Today, there are some 55,000 of them on the Tour du Valat artificial islet built by WWF. And did you know? Pink is not the natural color of these aquatic birds perched on their long stilts! The cause: pink algae and Artemia Salina shrimp! Other emblematic animals to spot on your trip to the Réserve Nationale de Camargue: wild bulls, semi-wild horses…

For a close-up view of the Camargue’s countless treasures, there’s nothing better than the trails of the Pont de Gau ornithological park, a playful excursion to the Marais du Vigueirat, a horseback ride in the Domaine de la Palissade or a stroll through the unique pink flamingo breeding site of the Etang du Fangassier.

Finally, it’s impossible to spend a vacation in the Camargue without visiting Salin-de-Giraud and its marshes on the famous “Circuit du sel et des flamands roses”. A 29 km itinerary between Salin and Beauduc, with no fewer than 15 remarkable sites nearby: Coussouls de Crau, L’Ilon, Marais du Vigueirat, Tour du Valat, Étang de Vaccarès…

The largest pond in the Camargue (65 km²), Vaccarès is an essential stopover on your Mediterranean vacation. Located in the Camargue Natural Park and National Reserve, this ‘Grand Mar’ is a mythical route from Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer for mountain bikers and mountain bike enthusiasts.

Dive into the deep end and feel the soul of the Camargue

The Camargue is more than just salt marshes and manades: it also offers wonderful beaches and authentic little villages.

When you stay at Le Grau-du-Roi, you don’t have to go far to recharge your batteries or have fun with the whole family! This ancient fishing port boasts no less than 18 km of golden sand and a mythical wild beach: L’Espiguette. Other spots for lovers of endless sandy beaches and unspoilt nature: Beauduc and Piémanson.

You can also take advantage of your visit to Sainte-Marie-de-la-Mer, a must on your Camargue vacation, to take a refreshing break on the beaches. France’s most beautiful detour, this land of welcome and pilgrimage for gypsies from all over the world is a veritable condensation of Provence.

Finally, make the most of your Camargue vacation at Le Grau-du-Roi to visit Aigues-Mortes, with its ramparts, arenas and remarkable natural heritage… But also Arles, a Town of Art and History with a double Unesco World Heritage listing: Cultural Heritage Site “Arles, Romanesque and Roman Monuments” and Serial Cultural Heritage Site “Pilgrims’ Way to Santiago de Compostela in France”.
