Walking in La Rochelle
Of course, La Rochelle is a must-see on your vacation in the Charente-Maritime region, of which it is also the prefecture. A visit to this charming thousand-year-old city includes its 3 towers, the Porte de la grosse Horloge, the Hôtel de Ville, Saint-Louis cathedral, the Port des Minimes… And don’t forget to visit the market and look up to admire the architecture and arcaded streets.
A taste of Charente gastronomy

The island of Oléron is full of charm, with its authentic villages and breathtaking wilderness. The citadel of Château d’Oléron and its oyster-farming port are among the not-to-be-missed sights on your seaside vacation in Charente-Maritime. If you’re brave enough, climb the 224 steps to the Chassiron lighthouse for an incredible view. Afterwards, take a rest on the magnificent Place de Boyardville, overlooking the fort, to reward yourself for your efforts.

For a cruise, several departures are possible from Pointe-de-la-Fumée, Rochefort, Fouras-les-Bains or Port-des-Barques. Lovers will prefer a sunset cruise on a sailboat or catamaran for a cultural and romantic getaway.
